JONATHAN BERNSTEIN
President & CEO

Jonathan Bernstein has more than 20 years experience in the design and conduct of public relations and strategic communications programs, with particular expertise in all aspects of crisis management — crisis response, vulnerability assessment, planning, training and simulations. His past experience includes corporate, agency and non-profit public relations positions, preceded by five years of investigative and feature journalism — including a stint with investigative reporter/columnist Jack Anderson. He is a veteran of five years in U.S. Army Military Intelligence/counter-terrorism operations.

Bernstein is publisher and editor of Crisis Manager, an email newsletter written for "those who are crisis managers whether they want to be or not," currently read in 56 countries, and recently published Keeping the Wolves at Bay: A Media Training Manual. He is a frequent writer, public speaker, trainer and media source about his areas of expertise and, when not in the office, enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, as well as playing and writing about the sport of paintball and performing folk music.

PHILLIP COGAN

Phil Cogan is a former print and broadcast news journalist who has been engaged in federal, state and local government crisis communications and emergency management activities since 1975. He was formerly the deputy director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Office of Emergency Information and Public Affairs, and director of External Relations for the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazards Investigation Board.

Cogan was a major contributor to the federal government's Joint Information System procedures for emergency public information. He is an avid advocate and user of both high- and low-tech solutions for crisis communications. He has established unique radio and satellite TV services for post-disaster information dissemination in several U.S. locations, and he pioneered and oversaw daily operations of the award-winning Web sites of both FEMA and the Chemical Safety Board.
